CAMSHAFTS - STAGE 2 Forced Induction (DSM 420A)
CAMSHAFTS - STAGE 2 Forced Induction (DSM 420A)
The 420A engine was a joint venture between Chrysler Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, typically referred to a Diamond Star Motors (DSM). The name DSM came from the parent companies respective logos, three diamonds (Mitsubishi) and a pentastar (Chrysler). The most popular of the 420A DSM variants is the front exhaust 420A head found in the Mitsubishi Eclipse RS (95-99), Eagle Talon (95-98) and Plymouth Laser. A low profile, cast aluminum cross-flow cylinder head has pent-roof combustion chambers housing four valves per cylinder. Dual camshafts run in six bearings with removable caps that are machined in head base material. Powdered metal valve seat inserts and valve guides are pressed into the head. Spark plugs thread into the center of the combustion chamber through wells cast into the head.
